Bertha Evalin Cummings was born in Oregon in 1913.  Her father, Charles Cummings (1856-1937), had moved to Oregon from Illinois at the age of nine.  He came with his parents in a covered wagon in 1865.

Bertha, known as Evalin to most of her friends, worked as a civil servant in Washington, DC and at various locations in California from 1935-1946.

In 1945 she married James Newell Kezar. After raising two children, Barb and Bill, she returned to civil service, working in Barstow, CA from 1967 to 1979.

Mrs. Kezar became interested in genealogy, while helping members of the Kezar family research their ancestry.  She subsequently began researching her family history.

She was especially proud to be a descendant of John and Priscilla Alden, and Priscilla’s father, William Mullins, passengers on the Mayflower.

Evalin was devoted to researching the Dyer family name.  She was particularly interested in the descendants of Moses True Dyer, who arrived in Oregon in 1852.

Mrs. Kezar was an active member of:

The Alden Kindred Of America
National Society Daughters Of The American Revolution
The National Society Colonial Dames – XVII Century

The Mayflower
